Volunteering with Eat Up to Feed Hungry School Kids

Last week the entire Dr. Bronner's Australia team had the pleasure of volunteering with Eat Up, an incredible non-profit organisation which makes and delivers thousands of lunches a month to schools around Australia to ensure disadvantaged kids don’t go without.

Since 2015, generous volunteers throughout Australia have made 1 million sandwiches for Eat Up to deliver to 500 schools, and we were very proud to contribute by making more than 1,000 sandwiches in our 2-hour session! Eat Up's Lyndon and Terry came to our office with everything needed for a fun, inspiring and educational morning of sandwich-making.

It’s hard to believe, but 1 in every 8 primary school children between the ages of 5 to 11 are going to school without food to fuel their growing bodies and brains. Missing out on lunch has a big impact, with hunger leading to fatigue and poor
concentration. This contributes to learning difficulties and behavioural problems in
school, with disadvantaged children falling further behind their peers. Many of the children come from homes experiencing financial hardship, substance abuse, violence, homelessness or are refugees.

Eat Up's mission is to feed hungry children so they can learn, grow and
succeed. By getting involved through workplace volunteering, we were able help
Eat Up achieve this mission. We look forward to booking another session later this year and continuing our relationship with Eat Up as one of our All-One Australia Initiative partners
